Dome, a Japanese small volume manufacturer, put together a spaceframe Celica to compete in endurance races around the world in 1980. With a highly strung 18R-G (560hp claimed) it had frequent engine troubles causing DNF finishes at three of its four entered events (Sebring 12hr / Riverside 5hr / Suzuka 1000km). It also failed to qualify at Le Mans, so its results were dismal. It is however a wild-looking and interesting machine. Of interest here at Pine are the Hayashi 16" centrelock three piece wheels with aero covers
Magazine article on the Celica by Autosport in 1980:
Since the late 60's Masakazu Hayashi and his company Hayashi Racing had been developing racing machines and products. For the 1980 season Hayashi Racing developed a full F-3 machine named the 803 (independent from the similarly named March 803 of the same period). As with all machines in the class, it ran a Toyota 2TG engine Two chassis were run for the Japanese F-3 season, no.5 (Command livery) driven by Kengo Nakamoto, and no.21 (Street II / Command livery) driven by Osamu Nakako. They had moderate success with one race win and championship positions of 3rd and 5th Autosport magazine featured the new vehicle as seen here (English translation by google)
Autosport throughout 1980 provided some updates from the race season:
One of Hayashi's adverts from the same year, the mesh wheel was fitted to the 803:
Hayashi would follow up the 803 with the 320 model which dominated the 1981 season More info can be found at - Hayashi Racing for company history
